After listening to Gwen Stefani’s repetitive lyrics of Bananas….b a n a n a s……which clearly earned her the gold medal in the spelling bee contest, sparked my brain to a realization. I didn’t grab my daily dose of potassium on my way out the door this morning. (read more)

I am not a fan of reality television. My wife, on the other hand, has yet to meet a reality show she doesn’t like. Okay, that’s not entirely true, but right now, our TIVO is full with past episodes of ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ Now, I do have one guilty pleasure in reality television that just ended its second season - Hell’s Kitchen. I’m sorry, but these people sign up to have a world-renowned chef yell at them and call them all sorts of clever, degrading names. It is hilarious. (read more)

As a kid, one of my favorite things to do was to go with my dad and my grandfather down to the lake and do a little fishing. We would bring home our catfish catch of the day, and my mother and grandmother would fry them up and serve them with cole slaw, corn-on-the-cob and hush puppies (or fritters). It made for a very fun day, and we usually did this about 5-6 times every year, mostly in the summer. Salad is often the first thing people think of when they’re trying to cut down on calories and eat healthy. It’s a good instinct - salads made with leafy greens and other veggies are packed with important nutrients and health protection. The problem is when those salads get dressed. To put it bluntly - they get fat. (read more)
