Top 10 American Hot Dogs

The hot dog is an American tradition. Every region seems to have its own variation on it. And, everybody has his or her personal favorite way of consuming the national favorite.

The trick to eating the best hot dog is to get the absolute perfect bite every time. You have to have the right combination of meat, bun and condiments in every bite. Ultimately the best hot dog stand hot dog has these components: It is 100% all beef, steamed and placed on a poppy seed bun. Top the dog with a smear of yellow mustard (none of that fancy stuff), a cold, sliced dill pickle and just a sprinkle of celery salt. You can swap the mustard and pickle and replace it with melted American cheese it’s just as good.

Other variations are also quite tasty. Following is a list of the 10 next best hot dogs.
chicago hot dog
1.Chicago hot dog

– Chicagoans are VERY particular about their hot dogs. Therefore, they’re the best. A true Chicago hot dog is all-beef (usually Vienna), steamed, on a poppy seed bun, and topped with tomatoes, cucumbers dill pickle, sweet pickle relish (to be official it must be the neon green variety), yellow mustard and finished with celery salt. Some common options are sport peppers and diced raw onion. It’s like having a salad on your hot dog. Yum! Please note, nowhere in this description was ketchup mentioned. Ketchup is NOT allowed on a Chicago style hot dog – ever. Some places to get a real Chicago style include Portillo’s, Super Dawg and Gene’s and Jude’s.

Hey! Just wanted to let you know that your red hot dog picture isn’t so accurate! I’ve lived in Maine all my life, and you’re right, they’re really popular here! I won’t eat a hot dog any other way! so trust me when I say that’s not a red hot dog you’ve got pictured there
Thanks!

More importantly, the Vienna brand hot dog (Number 1 on this list) is not only all-beef, it’s actually kosher beef. This means the meat comes ONLY from standard beef cuts and does not include any of those nasty parts of the cow.

The Best Hot Dog Stands have poppy seed hotdog buns??!?!

Funny I’ve never seen a Baseball Stadium, Nathans Famous, Sabrett cart, or Papaya Dog sell a seeded bun for a hot dog.

matter of fact out of 10 of the “Worlds Top Hotdogs” only one is served on a seeded bun. Perhaps it isn’t such a hallmark of a good dog.

What about the LA STREET DOG!! — fatty dog wrapped in bacon and grilled on the street. Add some grilled onions, mayo, ketchup, mustard, and a grilled pepper. Maybe by a fancy cart, maybe a propane tank on a baby stroller. It needs to be on the list.
